Undertone? Sounds tricky and complicated right? It is the reason why the foundation shade that the sales rep at that beauty store swore was going to be your perfect shade but afterward, you discovered it just didn’t sit right. The color is just about right but something is still off about it. This is why knowing your undertone is very crucial especially if you want your makeup result to look flawless as ever.
When you know your skin’s undertone, it is a lot easier to find your shade. When you use a foundation shade that doesn’t match your skin undertone, this makes your makeup come off looking ashy and weird.
What exactly is an undertone? You might ask. And how do you find out what yours is?
Trust me it’s not rocket science, stick with me till the end and I’m going to show you ways to discover what your undertone is, and what colors you can wear.
First, you need to understand the difference between your skin’s tone and your skin’s undertone. It is fairly straightforward to understand your skin tone which is either light, medium, or dark. Skin tones can change due to certain conditions like when you expose your skin to the sun. But just matching the color of your skin to the foundations in the store will not help you find your foundation shade.
An undertone is a color from underneath the surface of your skin that affects your overall hue.
Types of undertones and how to choose the right In My Skin Foundation shade for your skin’s undertones
Cool undertones:
If you have cool undertones, opt for an In My Skin Foundation shade that looks slightly pink in the bottle.
Warm Undertones
If you have warm undertones, look for an In My Skin Foundation shade that is slightly yellow.
Neutral Undertones
People with neutral undertones are essentially a mixture of warm and cool tones and they tend to look best in an In My Skin Foundation shade that doesn't look overly pink or overly yellow in the bottle—a combination of the two, like peach, is a great option.
The bottom line is your undertones can provide some insights into what looks best against your natural skin color. Still, your personal preferences are more important.

Check your veins
If you can see your veins, you may be able to use their color to identify your undertone. If your veins look greenish, then you may have warm undertones. People with blue or purplish-looking veins usually have cooler undertones. If you have neutral undertones, then your veins may appear colorless or match the color of your skin.
Slip on a white T-shirt.
Or any pure white piece of clothing, for that matter. If your skin skews yellow against the clothing, your undertones skew warm. On the other hand, if your skin looks rosy, your undertones skew cool.
Think about what colors look best on you.
Here's another trick to try. If you look best in a color like blue, you have cool undertones, but if you look better in a hue like yellow, you have warm undertones. And, if any shade suits you (lucky you!), then you have neutral undertones.
